Frequently Asked Questions
Will you work for free?
As much as I love to help people out, it has become impossible for me to work for free as it takes up too much of my time to simply be a hobby, so think of it as my job just as you work for a living.
Are these prices final?
No. I will always negotiate a price depending on your needs, provide a quote, or explain why a service is so costly. Also see “This seems expensive?”
What are “costs”?
When I say plus costs, I am usually referring to consumables such as batteries, memory and other items such as props or other materials required for the shoot. In some circumstances, travel costs are also included.
What does “adjusted” mean?
An adjusted image is one which has had basic editing to make it appear “correct”, including adjustment of White Balance, Exposure, Recovery, Fill Light, Blacks, Brightness, Contrast and Saturation. At this level I also correct Distortion and Chromatic Aberration.
Will you upload photos to a Facebook Page?
Certainly. All I require is access to the page, by either disclosing a username and password or by adding me as an “admin”. I will remove myself after upload is complete.
Concerned about security of your page? See my Privacy Policy.
What is a “watermark”?
A watermark is, in short, a small version of my logo in the corner of the image.
This seems expensive?
There are large overheads involved with professional photography including camera equipment, software, computers and storage, as well as the costs involved in maintaining, replacing and insuring all these items which in total can add up to in excess of $15,000.
In most cases you are also paying for a photographers style, qualifications and expertise.
In the case of events photography, also take these notes into mind:
- Each event, especially major events such as a wedding, represents a major time commitment. Sometimes over 15 hours will be spent photographing the event but time must also be spent working on the images and putting them together for final delivery to you.
- Most photography is seasonal. There are certain times of year and even specific days of the week when photographers are in high demand, therefore most photographers budget and anticipate for work in only 8 months of the year.
- The price also represents responsibility and commitment to you. There is a saying: “Good is almost never cheap and cheap is seldom good”.
- The only thing worse than poor quality photographs is losing all the images of a one-off event forever. Professional photographers have systems in place to ensure minimal risk that this occurs.
How do I pay you?
At the bottom of my invoice are two electronic payment methods. For all photography jobs, I will send you an invoice no more than 7 days after completion of the work. For design work I ask for an initial deposit (which will be invoiced to you) after planning the project, and will send you a final invoice once work is completed.
How do I know you are legitimate?
I am registered with the Australian Business Register. Details can be viewed at abr.business.gov.au and my portfolio, including paid work, can be seen on flickr.com. I am working on getting some testimonials from prior customers.
